The sanctuary in St John's (the area around the altar and tabernacle) is to be redecorated on the 15th March 2021, with the work expected to take up to six weeks.
The plans involve creating a new stepped and canopied setting for the tabernacle, enhancements to the existing altar, and a new presidential chair and lectern.
Stencilling will be added to the walls of the sanctuary, although this will be toned down compared to how it would have appeared when the church was built. The sanctuary arch will be painted with vibrant and gilded decoration through uncovering and restoring the original. The Latin scripture which was over the arch will be reinstated with an English translation. For details of the plans please visit the Catholic Parish of St John the Baptist website:
